I’VE BEEN GETTING SOME INQUIRIES AS TO THE IDENTITY OF ARCHIE GORALSKI. HE WAS MY TEN YEAR-OLD’S HAMSTER. HERE IS ARCHIE’S OBITUARY AS IT APPEARED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES IN JULY.

GORALSKI, Archie  Archie Goralski, pretty darn close to 3 years old, of 24 Circle Drive, Unionville, beloved pet hamster of Matthew Goralski, died in his sleep near his favorite running wheel in the Sleeping and Exercise portion of his compound on July 23, 2008. Archie was named after the father of NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. Archie loved to run on his green wheel for hours at a time. He enjoyed grinding his teeth on the metal bars of his cage at all hours of the night as well as trying to find new ways to escape. He once found his way out and began making a new home for himself in the corner of a closet until he was discovered after leaving a trail of food from his cage. He ate several family pictures and dug a hole in the carpet which we all thought was very cute. Last year Archie won the first place award for FLUFFIEST HAMSTER at the Farmington Library and was presented his award by Scott Haney of WFSB-TV. Archie was present during the New York Giants victory over the New England Patriots in Superbowl 42, climbing to the top of his cage and jumping backwards several times during the game. He is survived by Matthew, Ron, Shelley, Danielle, Ryan, Jayson, Nolan, & Minnie Goralski. A private burial will take place in the backyard at his home as soon as it stops raining. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minnie Goralski Spaying Fund.
